  • Tammy Krejcarek

    Tammy’s formal education began with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Norfolk State University. She then went on to obtain a Master’s degree in Counseling from William & Mary (Go, Tribe!) before earning her Ed.S. in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Special Education.

    In addition to her advanced degrees and teaching license, Tammy also holds a Math Specialist Endorsement in grades K-12. Ms. Krejcarek spent 18 years teaching and serving local school divisions as a Math Specialist. She has collaborated with teachers in multiple school divisions to improve their teaching in mathematics, raising scores in one school by over 80%! Tammy is well known in the community for her expertise in effective mathematical instruction and provides professional development across divisions. She has over 20 years of experience tutoring elementary students. Tammy will communicate with your child’s teacher to ensure that sessions are both targeted and purposeful while at the same time being fun and engaging.

    Tammy recognizes that students often feel math is too hard for them, so she strives to boost their self-confidence along the way.

    Ms. Krejcarek has 10 years of school administration experience and currently works full-time as an elementary school principal. However, she cannot give up the joy of working 1:1 with students who need extra math support. In her spare time, she loves hanging out with her daughter, along with her two labs, Gouda, and Lola.

  • Dr. Karyn M. Ward

    Karyn joins the team at HDRC with enthusiasm and eagerness to help students learn to read. Her career as an educator spans 23 years, serving as an elementary classroom teacher, a testing coordinator, an assistant principal, an adjunct professor, and currently serving as the Associate Director of Teacher Preparation at Christopher Newport University.  She holds a Post-Professional Certificate as a Reading Specialist and a Doctorate degree in Educational Policy, Planning, and Leadership from the College of William & Mary; a Master of Science in Elementary Education from Old Dominion University, and a Bachelor of Science in Marketing Management from Virginia Tech. She currently serves as Co-President of the Omicron Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional honor society for women educators. Karyn is the proud author of Faith Walk: Using your Faith tool to get through life’s challenges. She is active in her church, International Kingdom Life Training Center, where she serves as a Deaconess, Corporate Secretary on the Board of Directors, and Director of Education. In her spare time, Karyn loves to be with her family and friends, reading, cooking, visiting museums, and traveling.

  • Nicole Cappiello

    Nicole Cappiello joined the Hampton Roads Dyslexia Center team as a Curriculum Specialist in November 2025. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Pittsburgh and later attended Teachers College, Columbia University, where she received her Master of Arts in Early Childhood Special Education.

    Nicole brings over 20 years of dedicated teaching experience to HRDC, with 15 years in Special Education and secondary English education. She has taught in various settings, including inner-city schools and suburban districts, working with students from kindergarten through 12th grade.

    Most recently, Nicole served as an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher for York County School Division, where she provided both push-in and self-contained services for children with developmental disabilities and autism. Her extensive experience includes IEP development and implementation, conducting assessments, collaborating with general educators to provide accommodations and modifications, and participating in child studies and developmental testing.

    Nicole is passionate about supporting the unique needs of all learners, particularly students with learning differences and autism. She is committed to empowering students through individualized instruction and fostering a genuine love for learning. Her expertise in differentiated instruction, data collection, and building strong parent and community partnerships enables her to create meaningful educational experiences for each student.

    In her free time, Nicole enjoys traveling, spending quality time with her son, volunteering at the Food Bank, and engaging in water sports.

    Raven Wilson

    Raven Wilson joined the HRDC team as a general academic tutor in the summer of 2023. Raven earned her bachelor’s degree in education from The Virginia Commonwealth University (Go, Rams!). After graduating, Raven put her passion and skills to use teaching grades 1-3 for 7 years both in Newport News Schools and York County School Division. Seeing and experiencing firsthand some of the challenges students and teachers face, Raven made the difficult decision to leave the classroom. Focused and committed to improving teacher efficacy and student outcomes in underserved and underrepresented communities, Raven joined the team of Ellevation Education, whose mission is to improve the educational achievement of multi-language learners. Raven enjoys spending time outside with her beautiful family, prioritizing her physical and mental health, losing herself in good books, and beach days with the people she loves.
